... and I need it.

The last thread lasted so little I won't even recap it. Catch up on
I open the door and nearly have a heart attack.
I don't think I had ever seen so many unicorns at once outside a battlefield.
"And--" Seer stops midphrase for a heartbeat, something I wouldn't notice if I didn't know him so well. "--as you can see, my capture of the ship was successful. I've subjugated the original owners and plan to drop them to the closest regiment as soon as I can."
"Hm, I see," The unicorn that I guess is their leader walks to me like a prowling cat and evaluates me much like one. "We could take 'em off your hooves, you know."
"With all due respect, I had planned to collect the reward, sir."
The unicorn keeps walking circles, and I have the awkward feeling of that he isn't checking me out purely as a combatant. "I could use the money myself."
Seer clears his throat, "I have a few barrels of ale I could do without, sir."
A few of the unicorns lift their gazes from examining the deck at that, and give pressing looks to the leader.
"Fine, fine," He walks to Seer again. "Wine it is, boys. Do grab it from the store room, would you?"
A few nod and walk in, but I barely notice them.
A wing appears up in the crow's nest.
Salud's morning stretching. And last I heard, unicorns have far more interest in fliers than in earthlings.
I am barely able to bite down a shout.

I try to keep my voice calm, "Sir? You said I was to do something in the crow's nest in the morn?"
"Ah? Oh, yes," He nods. "Check that the binoculars are clean."
I make a reverence just in case and climb the mast to the crow's nest, where I clean the binoculars.
Salud stops stretching and gives me a curious look. I think of saying something,, but a few of the unicorns are watching me.
Won't be long before Salud says something herself.

I clean the binoculars in a rush and turn to Seer.
"It's done, Sir. Is there anything you, or your esteemed unicorn compatriots, may want?" I practically vomit at him.
Salud's eyes open wide, but she nods and pulls herself tighter into the crow's nest.
An hour of tense waiting later, they are gone.
It's only when I am climbing down the stairs that I realize the only alcohol we have left is fermented algae.

At some point, I realize I awoke.
I get up, trying my best to ignore my throbbing headache.
What... why didn't anyone light the other torches?
By the earthbones, it's too hard to think properly this early in the... wait, why is the moon high in the sky? My internal clock is well adjusted most of the time.

I glare at the selene, tempted to blame the gods for my headache, bur decide not to and head down to the bunks.
I can't see well in this light, but the snores from both Jenkins and Seer coming from the same general area tell me more than enough.

I walk back to the deck and check around, searching whatever is that woke me up, and after a moment my ears catch scribbling from the crow's nest.

Pausing for the day.

I climb to the crow's nest, and midway there the scribbling stops. When I reach the top, Salud is waiting me nervously and there isn't any pen or paper at sight.
"Hello!" She is so tense she practically shouts it. "Good to see you are awake!"

"Thanks, but what of the other lights? And what were you writing?"
"I--" A seagull screeches nearby, giving her a start. "I was just writing my Hippocratic oath, to relax."

She nods silently.
"Are you sure?"
She shakes her head.
"Then how...?" I leave it hanging, and climb completely into the crow's nest to sit down.
"My period should've started yesterday. I noticed it after you drank the fermented algae."

!!6rS9Q/1DV6r 2016-06-03 02:18:14 No. 27546729
"Other things could've caused it, right?" I ask. "I mean, diet and all that."
"I am normally regular as a clock."
"Hey, I won't leave you or something. You do know that, right?" She nods, but seems unsure.

I grab her in a tight hug and hold her, telling her that I won't leave her alone. I tell her that, even if we don't work together, I'll help her in whatever way I can.
A moment later, I think she fell asleep.

I put my beck against the mast and wait. After a few hours, she wakes up with a start before realizing it's me and gets up to a more comfortable position, massaging her neck.
"Hey," I ask her. "What did you mean with the fermented algae? I don't remember drinking any."
"Hm? You did," She stretches, flaring her wings. "You were asking Seer how strong it was and he told you to check by yourself," She yawns. "You downed a glass and fell asleep immediately." She laughs under her breath. "No one ever expects how strong it is."
We are silent for a moment.
"D'you want me to stay with you tonight?"
"I don't think I am in the mood for--"
"I didn't mean it that way. Just... sitting here."
She hesitates, but nods. I go down for a blanket and climb the mast again.

>Day forty of the eleventh moon.
After so long sailing unknown waters, we finally saw new land.
Finally. Finally we will escape the thrice damned war.
Salud's getting better, she can walk without vomiting now. I didn't expect her to get so nauseous while carrying our child.
Our. I still don't get used to it. She carries a little foal I helped in making.
I am equally horrified and giddy at the prospect of being a father. We decided to honor Seer and name the child Sarim, following unicorn customs.
Hah, maybe some day we will have Ludwig too.

Sorry for the utterly weak prompt, I'll give something stronger in the morning. Paused for the day.
